Summer is officially over in a few days. Ocean City and surrounding areas are about to come alive with Halloween and Fall festivities for the young to the young at heart. The Eastern Shore loves Autumn and the upcoming holidays. I culled through the many activities to bring you the best of the Shore this October.

2018 Apple Scrapple Festival – October 12, 4-10PM and October 13, 9AM-10PM
27th annual open-air street festival held in Bridgeville, Delaware filled with hundreds of vendors, cool car show, delicious food vendors, free entertainment stage, carnival, and special events!
Good Beer Festival 2018 – October 12, 5PM and October 13, 5:30PM
Hop on over to the Good Beer Festival, which returns to Pemberton Historical Park this October. This year, the festival, hosted by Wicomico County Recreation & Parks, will be held on a Friday and Saturday.

The Local Beer Garden, featuring select Eastern Shore breweries, will be back this year, along with the home brew competition, which has a registration deadline of until 100 entries are registered. The Pub will host an entertainment area with karaoke on Friday and a broadcast of sports on Saturday.

Berlin 150th Anniversary Celebration & Oktoberfest – October 13, 2-5 PM
Berlin’s 150th Anniversary and Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, October 13th, from 12-5pm at Main Street and Artisans Green.

9th Annual Harvest Festival – October 13, 12PM
Join Layton’s Chance Vineyard & Winery for a day-long celebration of their grape harvest! Fall fun is in the air and festivities run from 12:00 to 7:00PM.
There is plenty of fun for adults and kids alike. Food and craft vendors, grape stomping, hay rides, pony rides, agricultural demonstrations, moon bounce, and so much more! Live music all day. Food available for purchase from Ron’s Famous Pit Beef.

Bear Trap Dunes Fall Fest – October 13, 11AM

Downtown Pocomoke Fall Festival – October 13, 11AM
The Annual Downtown Pocomoke Fall Festival returns on Saturday, October 13th! Shop sidewalk and food vendors while enjoying live entertainment onstage all day. An Antique Car Show will be held in the Downtown Farmers & Flea Market Lot from 10am-2pm.
Fun for the kids! Face Painting, Temporary Tattoos, Pumpkin Painting, Hay Rides, Corn Pit and Admission to Downtown Museums. Hook’d on Fishin’ program at the docks from 12-3pm.
Come dressed in your Halloween costumes & be a part of the onstage Costume Contest at 2:30pm. Register by the stage from 11am-2pm. Prizes awarded! Sunset Park overlooking Assawoman Bay will once again be the setting for a fabulous Shore Craft Beer celebration of the local breweries who are producing world class beer.

Family fun activities including hayride, corn maze, tricycle track, bigger corn pit, new BIG slide, bounce house and more. Special events include tractor show on October 13th and car show and kids painting party on October 20th. Mardela Fire Company will be selling BBQ chicken on October 20th. Pumpkin Festival 2018 – October 7, 10AM
Come Visit Pumpkin Fest 2018! Kid Friendly Fun will include a mobile zoo by Barnhill Preserve, Pumpkin Painting, corn pit, blowup obstacle course, touch a tractor and more.
Armbands will be $5 (ages 2-14) for the kids’ area which includes the mobile zoo. Kids under 2 are free.

Paranormal Investigation – October 12, 7PM
Join Chesapeake Ghost Walks for a 1.5-hour paranormal investigation at Furnace Town in Snow Hill.

You’ll tour their restored historic buildings all of which have had paranormal activity around them for years. Group will be able to enter the old Church – home of the “Heavy Bible” and investigate around the old iron furnace, but the highlight will be walking into the secluded (and haunted) Pocomoke Forest.
Sightings of Sampson Harmon, a free Black man who worked at the iron furnace and lived in the forest with his cats until he was 104 years old have been known to occur. Some people catch a glimpse of his cat. Harmon is one of over a dozen legendary spirits said to haunt the Pocomoke Forest.
This forest has a 200-year legacy of being haunted, and it is by far, the most haunted forest in Maryland.
Halloween Happening – October 13, 1PM and October 20, 1PM
Halloween Happening is the biggest Halloween event on the Eastern Shore. The event provides Halloween themed activities for children 10 and under who may not want to participate in the scarier parts of a Halloween event. The event runs on Saturday, October 13th and on the following Saturday, October 20th from 1pm-4pm. Children will be able to” Trick or Treat” throughout the Zoo, participate in Halloween games, learn about animals, go thru a hay bale maze and compete in a costume contest! 2018 Boo-B-Que: Barbeque & Brews Festival – October 20, 2PM-7PM
The 4th Annual Boo-B-Que: Barbeque & Brews Festival will be taking place Saturday, October 20th from 2-7pm at The Delaware Seashore State Parks Southside Campground.
This year’s festival is everything BBQ with a professional & amateur BBQ Competition that you get to take part in and judge to see who will be crowned the champion! There will be 20 amateur & professional BBQ’ers cooking up their best pulled pork recipes & serving them up to masses.
Pair your BBQ with a refreshing beer in their Beer Garden featuring Delaware’s best craft breweries including Crooked Hammock Brewery, Mispillion River Brewing, Dewey Beer Company, & Big Oyster Brewery.
This will be an event the whole family can enjoy with kids’ activities with the Dewey Artist Collaboration including paint your own pumpkins, build a scarecrow, face painting & so much more!
Delaware Cornhole will be running the Boo-B-Que Cornhole Tournament during the festival. This is your chance to compete in teams of two in Southern Delaware’s premiere cornhole tournament. Those interested in competing will register the day of starting at 2pm. Cost is $40 per team.
There will be live music throughout the event on the Boo-B-Que Stage including headlining act Sweet Leda. Their rockin’ soul music will be the perfect backdrop to Delaware’s largest BBQ Festival by the sea.

Hell-o-ween Trail – October 20, 6:30PM
Into the woods we go. . .if you DARE! Once you enter, there is NO TURNING BACK. Follow your guide for a tour thru HELL and pray you make it out on the other side. 100% FREE Admission. Trick-or-Treat Street – October 21, 11AM-2PM
Delmarva’s largest safe and FREE trick-or-treating event is back for its 12th year! Families and children ages 12 & under are invited to come out in costume for a fun and friendly trick-or-treating experience in a non-threatening environment. Children are welcome to bring their own pumpkin to collect candy and other goodies, but bags will be available courtesy of Easter Seals.
Other games and activities include bounce houses, a fall-themed photo area, and more.
The event will be held at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Pemberton Park Pumpkin Tour – October 26
Get into the Halloween spirit with Pemberton Park’s Pumpkin Tour on Oct. 26! Groups and individuals are invited to enter a pumpkin to be featured on the tour, which will wind through the trails of Pemberton Park at dusk. The public is welcome to take the tour and enjoy other Halloween festivities for just $10 per car. Free candy, games and hot cocoa will be provided.
New for 2018, there will be cash prizes for pumpkins/displays – $250 for the best overall pumpkin and $100 each for the spookiest and goofiest pumpkins.
This year’s event will also feature a bigger and better hayride, a play presented by the Theatre Academy of Delmarva, a bonfire and entertainment at the amphitheater. Eastern Shore Kettle Korn will be on-site selling snacks, and Cub Scout Pack 184 will be selling glow necklaces.
You can enter a pumpkin in the tour for free if registered online before Oct. 25.
Track or Treat – October 26, 6PM
Come enjoy this safe Trick or Treating event. Local vendors will be joining with free goodies to hand out to the children and will have kid-friendly games for the whole family to enjoy.
Doors will open at 6:00 pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Paranormal Investigation – October 27, 7:30PM
Follow along with Dead of Night Paranormal team and experience the spirits that occupy the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum. Dead of Night will conduct their investigation using equipment such as an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) recorder and an EMF (Electromagnetic Frequency) meter to detect and communicate with the supernatural. As you tour from room to room museum staff will tell stories of historic tragedies and paranormal activity that has taken place within this 127-year-old Life-Saving Station. Fall/Halloween Celebration – October 27, 1PM-4PM
Bring the whole family to White Horse Park in Ocean Pines for a ghoulish good time! Play carnival games, do a craft, take a haunted hayride, participate in the costume contest, collect treats, ride a pony, and listen to Halloween music. Volunteers and donations of individually wrapped candy are needed and appreciated! This is a FREE event.
